Well, I still prefer that you went on your mission first, but if you can't go until you have earned money for it, I guess the Reserves is a good way to get the money to go. The pay is a lot better than your present job, plus after basic, you only have to serve 1 weekend a month and 2 weeks in the summer, so you can still pursue another job or go to school, plus I know the Air Force gives you lots of benefits etc., so if you're sure this is what you want, then I respect and honor your decision (just make sure you get it in writing somewhere that they will release you to go on your mission).
Also, if you do get into my squadron, next summer for our 2 week Annual tour we are going to Japan, which you would get to do before going on your mission. Just food for thought. :)
a) I have to say I'm not surprised about Chicago. Long distance relationships (especially when you are young and haven't actually met) are too hard.
b) I, too, would prefer the mission first. But, the Air Force is an honorable choice. And who knows, may make you a better missionary in the end! You'll probably be around plenty of people you can share the gospel with/be an example to, also.
c) What's with the "so there!"? It's not like we are all out to judge your choices! You are an adult now. We can give you advice, but you make your own decisions and you don't need to defend them to us. Especially not with a "so there".
I agree with all that was said by everyone.
I guess the Chicago thing was what you were mad about the other day then!!
Sorry to hear about your Chicago girl, but Alison is right about long distance relationships being really hard in any instance but especially on in which you've not ever met.
And also amen to Alison's other comments. Did you think that we'd be mad that you are doing the reserves first? It really is your decision. Even if you had said you weren't going on a mission at all, we'd still love you and support you. (But just make sure you go, so we don't have to see if that's the case). Good luck with everything! Keep us posted as things progress.
